Summertime equates long days, sunshine, family time, and laid-back schedules. Try to stay healthy while you enjoy the summer vibes. Thankfully, that’s what this post is all about. Whether you are vacationing or spending time at home, maintaining a healthy summer habit is paramount.
Healthy ways to enjoy your summer:
Now the temptation to overindulge may be a huge one! No thanks to barbecues, picnics, and so on. DON’T fall for all that food and alcohol, you’ll most likely regret it. And if you have been indulging, take a step back. Eat small, frequent meals, so you are not tempted to overeat.
Physical activity is good for all seasons, especially summer. Take part in outdoor aerobics, stretch, do a 30 minutes workout, get dirty; plant a small garden. Go hiking, kayaking, spend time with nature or enjoy a walking tour. Remember to always wear flip flops, socks or shoes when outdoors.
Restrict outdoor activities to early mornings or evenings. If you must stay outdoors during peak sunny hours, WEAR SUNSCREEN! Apply sunscreen to exposed parts of your body, including your lips, ears, and top of your feet. Reapply every 2 to 3 hours to stay protected. A hat, umbrella, and sunglasses are necessities also.
Drink plenty of water! Help your body cool down by drinking water frequently. Carry a bottle of water with you at all times and refill often. To spice up things, add fresh lemon, lime, mint, or drink seltzer instead. You can snack on high-water fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, and peach.
Don’t forget to schedule periods of rest during summer. Lazy days should be part of your plan because proper rest will help you better enjoy your vacation. For a restful sleep, keep your room cool and shades pulled. This is the season to slow the pace a bit, have fun, relax, and breathe.
Also observe basic precautions at the beach, open gatherings, or while exploring a new part of town. These are not new tips, but we wager you need a reminder.
