Can A New Mattress Improve your Insomnia

March 21st, 2022

More often than not, how your day would go is determined by how good a night’s rest you had. Not only can getting good sleep make you relax, but it also improves your immune system and general wellbeing. However, some people find it difficult to enjoy good sleep.

What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is one of the common sleeping disorders that shatters sleep schedules and binders people from getting quality sleep. There are about 80 types of sleeping disorders, but one of the most common is insomnia. It affects 1 in every 5 persons around the world. Some other common sleeping disorders include Narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, and sleep apnea.

Insomnia has various causes which vary from person to person. Common causes include stress, anxiety, Alzheimer’s Disease, mental disorders, and an abrupt change to a sleep schedule.

Another major cause of insomnia is discomfort, either in the body or due to the environment. Discomfort is caused by various things like body pain, a sudden change in sleeping conditions, a change of environment, terrible sleeping positions, and a bad mattress!

What makes a mattress uncomfortable?

  • It’s infested with dust mites or bed bugs that cause allergies or keep biting you
  • It’s covered in a material that makes you sweat more than usual
  • It’s too hard and causes pain in your joints

Whichever issue you have with your mattress, there’s a greater chance of getting better sleep if you change it.

Can a new Mattress improve your insomnia?

Absolutely! Sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress can hinder you from falling asleep or staying asleep for as long as you should.

However, the effectiveness of this depends on the cause of your insomnia sleep disorder. For instance, if you struggle with anxiety, a new mattress might not help you sleep better. But, if your major hindrance from good sleep is an uncomfortable mattress, a more comfortable one will solve your problems 100%!

In fact, studies have shown that a comfortable mattress can give you an average of an extra 42 minutes of quality sleep.

Signs that your Mattress is bad and should be changed

  1. Pains and aches: A great way to tell if the time has come to do away with your current mattress is how it affects your body after extended use. If you always wake up with body aches and pains. you should consider changing your mattress immediately.
  2. Age: No matter how great the mattress was when it was first purchased, every mattress would begin to lose its efficacy after some time. At some point, they will lose their supportive and pressure-relieving abilities. This is why it is recommended that you buy a new mattress every seven to ten years.
  3. Sagging: Due to having to support your weight constantly for an extended period, all mattresses will begin to sag. At this point, the mattress can no longer offer even support to your spine. Therefore, if your bed already spots permanent body indentations, then it’s a tell-tale sign that it has begun to say and therefore, needs changing as soon as possible.
  4. Mattress envy: If you notice that you regularly feel more comfortable on another kind of mattress other than yours, then that’s a rather obvious signal that your mattress isn’t serving the purpose it was meant to serve. At this point, the right thing to do is change it.

In conclusion, getting a nice and comfortable mattress is a great way to combat insomnia. It would help you sleep better and have a brighter day! Don’t forget to reach out to us without hesitation if you’re battling with insomnia and need help managing it.
