4 Things That Could Be Hurting Your Mental Health (PART 2/2)

July 28th, 2021

Read part 1: 4 Things That Could Be Hurting Your Mental Health (PART 1/2)

3. Sedentary lifestyle

This is more prevalent today than ever since a lot of people are working from the comfort of their homes.

This inactive lifestyle results in several mental health issues. Contrarily, living an active lifestyle improves mental health. (This is a part of the reason why regular exercise is recommended.)

A report on the website of the US National Library of Medicine mentions that “regardless of bout length, changes in sedentary behavior predicted changes in mental well being in a sample of younger healthy adults.” It adds “our data suggest that decreasing daily sedentary time by 60 min may prevent or significantly attenuate the negative effects of sedentary time on mental well being.”

If your body doesn’t get the needed daily exercise, if you aren’t living an active lifestyle, that’s bad for your mental health.

It’s therefore essential that you do away from your sedentary lifestyle and adopt healthier habits, which include doing exercise every day and eating healthy foods.

4. Unsupportive or negative friends

This could be difficult to tell, after all, they are your friends and you love them.

In reality, in many instances, the friends you hang out with may have a negative effect on you.

Are your friends are not supportive? Do they make you feel uncomfortable? Do they make fun of your dreams, lifestyle choices, or how you look and talk?, Do they bring toxicity to the mix?

If you answered yes to these questions, then understand that your friends may be a cause of your poor mental health. Therefore, it’s time to rethink your choice of friends.

Distance yourself from such “friends”. Stop talking to them. Don’t bring any part of their being into your life.

Final Words

These are four things that could be hurting your mental health. Take the necessary steps and address each of them.Of course, there are plenty of other things as well that can be affecting your mental health. For instance, sleep deprivation is a common cause.

Another cause is underlying health issues. For instance, if you have uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, it can keep you worried and anxious most of the time; in such cases, it does well to treat or control the core health issues than primarily focusing on mental health treatments. So, if you have diabetes, foremost visit an advanced diabetes management center and seek treatment for this disease. If that gets under control, your mental health will automatically elevate.

In any case, irrespective of the cause, prioritize your mental health. It’s a cornerstone for a healthier, happier, and more content life.

If you need help, search “primary care clinics near me“, find a good clinic, and get connected to qualified mental health professionals.
