How to cultivate a healthy lifestyle this holiday and beyond

how-to-have-a-healthy-holiday

Holidays are happy times. Times when we take breaks from working so hard for weeks on end, throw all restraints out the wind and have fun.

There are no limits to what you can do to make your holidays fun, so long as it makes you happy. However, are these things good for you? While you’re having fun and doing things that make you happy, are you living well? Are you living right?

Even if it’s during the holidays when we have free time to do whatever we want, we should not forget that health is wealth, and living well is living healthily.

Now, how can you stay healthy while doing all the things you want and having fun? Ride with me!

  1. EAT RIGHT

During holidays, we tend to take a break from nutritious food and opt for junk. That’s not an overly terrible idea, so long as it is taken in moderation.

However, balanced diets are important to keep you healthier. So, even if you gobble up all the chocolate and greasy burgers on the planet, make room for well-cooked meals on the side.

Also, don’t skip meals. Don’t eat too much, too. Drink a lot of water, and eat your fruits and vegetables. All of these keep the body system running properly.

  2. EXERCISE

Yes, it’s the holidays. Yes, you’re supposed to be having fun. But, who told you exercising cannot be fun? People tend to shy away from exercising because they think it’s it’s all body pain and headaches. That’s far from the truth.

Exercising helps your body in no small way: it strengthens your immune system, keeps your bones and muscles fit, and helps you shed off excess weight, amongst many other things.

A long jog, or a long walk every morning can go a long way. If you want to spice things up, team up with other people and perform your exercises together. Play good music while you’re at it, too.

  3. SLEEP

The importance of sleep in staying healthy cannot be overemphasized. All the freedom and festivity can distract you from having quality sleep, but don’t you think it’s funny that that’s exactly what work did, too? See?

Sleep for no less than 8 hours every day. You don’t want to end your holidays with eye bags and a sleepy head. There’s no fun in that. Don’t deprive yourself of well-deserved rest.

  4. RID YOURSELF OF ADDICTIONS

Whether it’s smoking, drinking, eating, or other things, when they become excessive to the point that they affect your day-to-day living, you should get rid of them and with the holidays, you have all the time to work on yourself.

A pretty effective method of getting over a bad habit is replacing it with another. So, instead of the beer, opt for a soda. Instead of the box of chocolates, have a nice sandwich. When you think of masturbating again take a long walk on the beach.

Do this consistently and it’ll soon become easy for you to do without those things.

  5. REDUCE SCREEN TIME

The world has become a global village. Technology dominated most facets of living, so it’s easy to get addicted to your devices, like your phone, laptop, ipad, television, et cetera.

However, obsessive use of them is unhealthy for you. They’ll distract you from real life and rob you of rewarding experiences that’ll make your holiday memorable.

So, reduce your screen time. Keep your devices away and out of sight. It’d be easier to do without them that way.

  6. SCREEN YOURSELF

The holidays are a good time to screen your health thoroughly. Search “primary care clinic near me” on Google, and make your way to the nearest one.

Now that you have the time, get a total medical check-up. Check for everything: lumps, foreign growths, sexually transmitted infections, even bad teeth. You can never be too sure.

Final Words
In essence, taking time to unwind and have fun is as important as being intentional about your health, but one must not outweigh the other.

So, pay attention to how you live your life during the holidays and take the necessary steps towards living better and healthier.
