February 1 - 28, 2023
Please join CWWCHC in celebrating Black History Month, February 1st through February 28th – A time to reflect on and remember the rich history of a people who have made priceless deposits in the account of history.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.
Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.
CWWCHC celebrates Black History Month with you! During this time, let us continue to celebrate and understand the cruciality of the valuable notion of remembrance when acknowledging the contributions of the Black community.
Here are a few ways that you can celebrate and reflect on the immense contributions of Black people during Black History Month:
1. Engage in self-education. Be intentional about finding new information regarding African American pioneers.
2. Support Black businesses and charities.
3. Use social media platforms to spread awareness of past, present, and current events that made or are making history.
4. Read or purchase books from established or upcoming Black authors/writers.
5. Uplift the positive and seize opportunities to honor and recognize the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans (including ourselves!) We matter and make a difference every day.
